    Candye and her band have been awarded Best Blues Band for 2001-2002 by the San Diego Music Awards for a record fifth time. Candye Kane remolds vintage Blues, Swing, and Rhythm and Blues into an ultra-modern sound that celebrates life. Candye, who resides in Encinitas, and her band will bring a theatrical, campy, high energy extravaganza to First Night Escondido.

    The Classic Rock, Blues, Oldies and Country tunes of Redd Lane will bring you closer to the legends of today and yesterday. Redd has been voted "Most Versatile Entertainer" in San Diego by the San Diego Music Awards.

    With a sound straight from the backwoods Zydeco dance clubs, Cajun "fais do do" dances, backyard crawfish boil parties and bayou festivals, Theo's secret spice to the Blues is the Louisiana hot sauce of traditional Cajon and Zydeco music.

    Dressed in a wardrobe that would make Austin Powers jealous and armed with vintage guitars, keyboards and amplifiers, Rockola has been a San Diego favorite for well over a decade. The band has a national following and boasts a massive fan base in San Francisco and Manhattan, winning them the official by line as "America's Classic Rock Experience". The band, touting four exceptionally talented lead vocalists, attributes its success to its distinctive harmonization. In addition to the mainstay rock instruments - guitar, keyboard and drums - Rockola works a dozen or so other instruments into the act, not the least of which is a 19 string Indian Sitar. Rockola has won five San Diego Music Awards. The band has performed in a CBS TV movie, a Bud Light commercial and four concerts with full symphony orchestras. Most recently, Rockola self-produced a performance of The Beatle's "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" for the album's 35th Anniversary.

    Grupo Imagen Azteca

    A high-energy Escondido-based Latino band - its mission - to make you dance like you've never danced before. Grupo Imagen Azteca has taken North County San Diego by storm, electrifying community events and private parties. The band, which formed two years ago, is known for their mix of cumbias, rancheras, and corridos, with a little salsa to spice it up.

    Rebeldes del Amor formed five years ago in Queretaro, Mexico. Since then, the band has produced three CD's, including the popular Noche de Estrella released by Nieves Productions, and moved its center of operations to Escondido. Members include Enrique Faccio (vocals/bass), Enrique Faccio Rojo (keyboards/vocals), Jorge Castorena (drums), Sergio Lopez (guitar) and Adrian Montes (percussion).
    Oscar Aragon and His Orquesta

    Oscar Aragon was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and began his guitar training at the age of 13, learning Classical, Latin American and Flamenco guitar. After a successful career as a young guitar soloist performing throughout Mexico and culminating in sold-out engagements at the world renowned Teatro Degollado, in the heart of Guadalajara, Oscar moved to Spain, where he studied with respected flamenco figures, including Marote and Felipe Maya. Oscar now resides in San Diego where he plays in many venues, such as the Lyceum Theatre, and at many renowned events, including the America's Cup. Oscar is currently working on his first solo CD.

This San Diego based band that plays with conviction and feeling is always a pleasure to experience. Nitro Express has been awarded 'Best Country Band' at the prestigious San Diego Music Awards.

    Offering some of America's most entertaining Country music! Celia and Thunder Rose are a high energy, interactive Country band that captures the excitement of Southern Rock and delivers it with Louisiana Blues flair.

    Berkley Hart are known for their down-home, acoustic-driven song writing style, but now the boys have thrown out the acoustic guitars, plugged in and added a full band to bring you American Roots Rock with Folk longevity and raw energy.

    Kids with a Cause

    Kids With a Cause, Inc. is an LA based non-profit organization consisting primarily of celebrity youth and teens who donate their time throughout the year to help those less fortunate. These talented kids, many of them highly recognized from TV work, will be performing at First Night Escondido. This years performers include: Tyson Blair, Jonathon Fairchild, Joel James, Jessica Seely, Tawny Triska and Autumn Williams.

    Razzle Bam Boom
    7:00-7:45 PM & 9:15-10:00 PM


    Razzle Bam Boom is Mark Beckwith and Obediah Thomas. The musical comedy duo perform Blue Grass, Gospel, Hawaiian, Western, Jazz, Blues, Folk, and Rock n' Roll. All ages enjoy participating in Cajun Hambonin' contests and watching surprise guests from the audience do a Mexican-American dance or a Charleston.

    Fern Street Circus

    Each year FERN STREET CIRCUS creates a new and spectacular circus show featuring San Diego's best professional circus and variety artists in a simple and whimsical setting. The show has plenty of acrobatics, dance and spectacle driven by original music performed by a live band. In keeping with a longtime circus tradition, San Diego performances mix adult artists with teens and children taught in an after-school program.

    Dick Dale, the "Delightful Deceiver", from El Cajon, is delighted to be performing once again at First Night Escondido. His ever popular performances are for all ages, and with his sly humor, he uses magic to educate as well as entertain. Audience participation is a must!

    Bridget Brigitte is one of San Diego's breakthrough new singer/songwriters whose recent CD was recorded by D. Chenoweth (Jewel) and J. Marlett (Blink 182).     Lee Tyler Post
    8:00-8:45 P.M. at the Community Stage

    Lee Tyler Post, a remarkably talented and versatile musician, is providing the service of "back-up performer" for First Night Escondido 2003. If for any reason an entertainer or group cannot go on, Lee Tyler Post will take the stage, enabling the show to go on! Lee has opened for "Missing Persons" and shared the billing with "Blink 182." His influences include Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin and Don Henley.
    Mani Alvarez
    9:00-11:00 at the Artists Gallery

    Mani has a devoted following in San Diego and a long history with First Night Escondido, entertaining either solo or with his group, transfixing his audience with his abilities as a guitarist and his skill as a Latin Jazz artist. This year, follow your ears to find Mani playing in one of the many art galleries along Grand Avenue.

    This delightful musical tells the story of a reluctant angel and the problems he has getting along with the rest of the heavenly choir. By Joseph Robinette and Diane Leslie. Based on the book by Charles Tazewell. Directed by Linda Collins and Steve Rich. Choreography by Christa Sherman.

    San Diego's Queen of Boogie Woogie, Sue Palmer, will bring her unique style and phenomenal Boogie Woogie left hand to First Night Escondido. She creates an atmosphere from the 1930's clubs of Harlem, West Texas and Paris.

    The Big Mo Band

    The sound of The Big Mo Band centers loosely around the classic New Orleans Jazz and Blues genres with some Funk and R&B added to spice up the gumbo. The 5-piece group features the rich baritone voice of David Mosby, a tight, funky band with a piano, drums, bass and sax.

    The Swing and Blues crowd will be happy to hear that the University City group, Blue Largo, will be performing at First Night Escondido. Blue Largo pays tribute to the Swinin' 40s and 50s, playing mostly Jump Blues mixed with Jazz, Swing and Boogie Woogie.

    Local Escondido singer, Echo, has a classic 1970's approach to singing and playing songs with simple insightful lyrics. She will be singing her Folk/Country tunes as the opening performer in the City Council Chambers.

    Tom Griesgraber

    Tom Griesgraber is a truly innovative artist. He brings a new sound to the guitar scene. Tom plays the Chapman Stick, a 12 string guitar that combines guitar and bass strings that allows the musician to play multiple parts simultaneously.

    Nathan James

    Nathan James, young Blues entertainer, will thoroughly entertain an audience with his various authentic blues styles and warm personality. His sound consists of soulful dynamic vocals underlined with effortless finger style guitar, foot tapping percussion effects, and seasoned with a little tasteful harmonica.

    Peggy Watson
    9:30-10:30 PM


    Peggy Watson is San Diego's premier singer/songwriter. She is known for her wide vocal range and smooth voice that flows effortlessly between contemporary folk stylings, smoky jazz and powerful pop ballads.

    Healii's Polynesian Revue

    Healii's Polynesian Revue is San Diego's premiere Polynesian music and dance troupe. The spectacular show includes rhythmic sounds of drummers and musicians, graceful wahines and energetic kanes. The songs and dances are from Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji and New Zealand. Healii's Polynesian Review has won the following awards at the following: E Hula Mau, Tahiti Fete of San Jose, Irvine's Polynesian Dance Competition, and the Las Vegas Ka La Hoku.

    Jean Isaacs' San Diego Dance Theater

    Jean Isaacs' work has been featured in seven bi-national festivals. Jean has strong ongoing ties with Switzerland and Germany, and teaches and choreographs there annually. Isaacs' recent awards include a 2000 choreography fellowship from the California Arts Council, a 1999 Tommy for Educator of the Year, Capherd Artist Award for 2000, a GLADD Award, First Place/Solo Category Palm Desert Choreography Festival, and the UCSD Distinguished Teaching Award.

    Malashock Dance is enjoying its 14th year as one of California's premiere dance companies - providing performances, educational programs and outreach projects to thousands each year. John Malashock, a former principal dancer with Twyla Tharp in New York, founded the company in 1988. Malashock performs regularly at the Old Globe, and throughout Southern California. They have also collaborated with the San Diego Opera, the San Diego Symphony, La Jolla Chamber Music Society, KPBS and UCSD-TV.

    Originally from Barbados, Ishmaeil "Peacemaker" Sealy, has brought his rhythms and vibrations to San Diego, California. Thesinger/composer/musician and his group will be playing their unique Reggae blends for First Night Escondido.

    Steve White is a gifted Blues musician and songwriter. He will be playing his guitar, singing with grit, groove and grace as he chuffs on a braced harmonica and pounds time on a homemade foot percussion box.

    This family of guitarists presents a passionate Nuevo Latin Flamenco program in a high energy show. The group of four musicians consists of two guitar players, a bass player and a drum/percussion player.

    Hoodoo Blues

    This San Diego based Blues group presents a unique synthesis of Blues, Rock and Swing that just makes people want to dance.

    Alexis Grenier

    Alexis, a recent graduate of San Pasqual High School and a current vocal performance major at Palomar College, has a deep musical connection. Alexis has performed in numerous recitals, singing Italian, German and French arias. In 2002, Alexis was one of only three vocalists chosen as a finalist by the San Diego Symphony for the Hot Shot Music competition.     Joey Pearson

    Joey discovered his love of singing at two in his home state of Georgia - now he's ten, lives in Encinitas, and has gigs throughout Southern California. Joey has performed at the House of Blues in Hollywood, at Universal Studios, and on the Jenny Jones Christmas Special. Joey is currently recording his second CD.

    Roland Garza

    Roland Garza, 18, is a recent graduate of Escondido Charter High School. He was one of two San Diego County performers to reach the semi-finals of the 2002 Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards. He's a professional model for Kazarian Spencer and Associates (KSA) and is working on an upcoming album with top Hollywood producers. Roland is committed to his work with "Kids With a Cause," a Los Angeles based non-profit with a mission to assist less fortunate young people.     Harmony McBrayer

    Harmony McBrayer, a recent graduate of Orange Glen High School, is currently a freshman at Azusa Pacific University were she is a Vocal Performance major. She has stared in numerous musicals, most notably and recently, Princess Winnifred in "Once Upon a Mattress" with the Fallbrook Players. Harmony was one of four finalists to sing with Usher on MTV and she is currently being pursued by Arista Records in LA. She is the reigning Miss California Teen Talent and hopes to pursue a career in Musical Theater or Professional singing.
