First Night Escondido and CSUSM launch North County Film Festival

First Night Escondido, North County's New Years Eve Celebration of the Arts, is pleased to announce the addition of a First Night Film Festival. Working in partnership with California State University San Marcos, the first ever Film Festival will be open to high school and college filmmakers in North County. The Film Festival will take place December 31st, during the First Night Escondido Celebration. It will be held in the Escondido City Hall Council Chambers, from 7pm to 10pm.

Jim Byler, Executive Director for First Night said, "We are very excited to add a Film Festival to our annual event. There are a lot of talented, aspiring filmmakers in North County, who will now have a premiere venue to showcase their films."

Byler said that First Night will be offering cash prizes and trophies to the first, second and third place winners. Films must be submitted by November 30th, and all films must be family friendly.

All films will be reviewed, and those selected to be shown at the Festival will be notified in December.

First Night Escondido, celebrating its 11th Anniversary, has become a tradition for North County families. An estimated 10,000 people are expected to attend the alcohol free celebration, which will be held at the California Center for the Arts Escondido, Escondido City Hall, and Grape Day Park. Over 100 performers on 10 stages will provide entertainment, from Country Western Dance Bands, to Oldies Rock and Roll. A Children's Circus will entertain kids and parents alike, and the New Year will be rung in with a spectacular Midnight Fireworks Display.

Byler said he will be working with Cal State San Marcos Professor Brandon Cesmat in promoting and organizing the Film Festival. Official entry forms and specific criteria are available via e-mail at info@firstnightescondido.com.
